VIXENTIO / GitHub

Ask about your work from the pull request.

What it does

The VIXENTIO GitHub App connects pull requests to shared work in VIXENTIO. Mention @vixentio in a pull request comment to ask about the work behind it, or to act on it, without leaving GitHub.

It answers from the work's own records:

  • Status: where the work is and what happens next.
  • Blockers: what the work is waiting for.
  • What changed: the latest changes to the work.
  • Who needs to approve: which reviews are still open.

It can also act, always after you confirm:

  • Guide the agent: "tell the agent: keep the button on the primary color token".
  • Request a review of the current version.
  • Hand off the work to a teammate you mention.

Get connected

  1. Connect your GitHub account. In VIXENTIO for Mac, open Settings › Account › GitHub and choose Connect GitHub…, or use Connect GitHub… in the web app's account menu. You sign in on GitHub, and VIXENTIO keeps only your GitHub user id and login.
  2. Install the app on your repositories (team owners). Use the Install button on this page and choose the repositories.
  3. Connect the installation to your team (team owners). In VIXENTIO for Mac, open your team's settings › GitHub and choose Connect to This Team.

Then publish work as a pull request from VIXENTIO. Only pull requests VIXENTIO opened for a piece of work are connected to it; links in a pull request's description don't connect it.

Ask and act

Write @vixentio followed by your question or request in a pull request comment:

  • @vixentio what's the status?
  • @vixentio what's blocking this?
  • @vixentio who needs to approve?
  • @vixentio tell the agent: use the spacing scale
  • @vixentio hand off to @teammate

Questions get an answer in the same thread. A request that changes something gets a card that says Needs approval, with a short code. Reply @vixentio approve <code> to run it, or @vixentio cancel <code>. Only the person who asked can approve their own request, and approving twice never runs it twice. The card updates as it runs.

Who can do what

Your rights in VIXENTIO decide, never the mention:

  • Your GitHub account must be connected to your VIXENTIO account, and you must be in the team the installation belongs to.
  • Anyone in the team can ask questions. Commenters and above can guide the agent, and only the person driving the work can hand it off.
  • If your account isn't connected, the app replies with a link to this page and does nothing else.

What it never does

  • It never merges, closes or deletes anything, and never pushes code.
  • It has no access to your repository's contents.
  • It doesn't store your comments. VIXENTIO keeps ids and status codes so it can answer once and show what happened, never the text.
  • It never acts on a comment from another bot, and editing a comment doesn't ask again.

Disconnect

  • Your account: Settings › Account › GitHub › Disconnect, or Disconnect GitHub in the web app's account menu. Revoking the app in your GitHub settings disconnects it too.
  • A team: the team's settings › GitHub › Disconnect.
  • Everywhere: uninstall the app in GitHub (Settings › Applications › Installed GitHub Apps).
